AIMS & PURPOSES
Further develop the bond between current and past Airborne forces of the U.S. Military
Maintain a record of the history and accomplishments of Airborne Troopers.
Maintain a close liaison with active Division.
Support the 82nd Airborne Division Memorial Museum.
Provide scholarships through the Association Educational Fund to recently released veterans and children of veteran and active duty members of the Association ($87,250 awarded in 2002)
Honor the NCO & Trooper of the Year
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- 2002 Annual Donation from membership dues to 82nd Airborne Division Memorial Museum amounted to $16,061.40
- 2002 Annual Donation to Educational Fund amounted to $16,445.91. This also came from membership dues.
- Provides funds for stained glass windows in the Division Chapel honoring Troopers of various conflicts who made the supreme sacrifice.
- Provide funds for holiday celebrations for deployed Troopers.
- Present Association watches, life membership and trip to national convention to NCO and Trooper of the Year.
- Support Division by helping obtain items for which no official funds are available such as:
- Uniforms and sound equipment for the 82nd Airborne Division Chorus.
- Baby Certificates
- Uniforms for athletic teams
- Food for Chaplain's Food Locker
- 1948 - Was instrumental in helping the 82nd get back the distinctive jump boots, cap patch and Airborne tab.
- 1980 - Helped get the Maroon Beret adopted as official headgear.
- 1992 - During Desert Storm, coordinated corporate and personal contributions amounting to $4 million in goods and services and $17,000 cash to help family members of deployed soldiers.
- 1994 - Following an accident at Pope AFB, Association provided $5,000 for emergency use. Chapters in San Antonio, Texas and Hampton Roads, Virginia provided much needed support for hospitalized soldiers and their families.
- 2002 - Provided "goodies" for the troopers deployed to protect our nation in Afghanistan.
- National Airborne Day - Through the efforts of Association members across the country for the past four years, the U.S. Senate, as well as many states and municipalities, have recognized August 16 as National Airborne Day.
BENEFITS
Beyond the obvious benefits of lifetime friendships and membership in a Brotherhood that has no equal, the following are provided to members:
Communication - The Association maintains close communication with its members through monthly bulletins to chapter officials and quarterly with a Paraglide direct mailed to every member.
MasterCard - Through an arrangement with MBNA, members can receive an official Association MasterCard embossed with the 82nd Assn. Logo
Bass Hotel & Resorts - Members receive a Bass Hotel & Resorts Discount Card which entitles them to government rates.
All American Week - Members are invited to return to Fort Bragg annually to renew friendships and memories of active duty days.
National Convention and Regional Conferences - Weekend conferences are held throughout the year and around the country. An annual National Convention is held each August.
